Dr. Jackson received his M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Davis. His education has been in the fields of deviance, crime and social control, and his research often centers on efforts to transform youth through formal and informal systems but also examines the processing of offenders of varied ages and their management in detention facilities and parole reentry. His recent research examines the interplay between resiliency and restorative justice interventions as well as the role and importance of human-animal connectedness for the well being of traumatized youth.
