Public Safety Communications Specialist (a.k.a. 911 Taker) is an entry level training position that involves receiving, answering, and processing of 911 emergency and 311 non-emergency calls. It requires the ability to make quick decisions, speak well, and to remain calm under pressure while talking to callers who are in crisis, upset, hysterical, angry etc. It requires the ability to use a computer aided dispatch system to create calls for service using police type codes and prioritization, to be sent over to the Radio Dispatchers.
