        The Santa Rosa Police Department offers opportunities for college
      students to work in intern positions designed to expose college
      students to the various aspects of police work. The primary
      objective of the intern program is to provide a meaningful, well
      rounded experience for college students to assess the law
      enforcement profession first hand by working in a variety of
      assignments.

      Interns are provided an atmosphere conducive to learning and
      assist in performing various routine phases of police work. The
      intern position performs a variety of duties assisting Police
      Officers and other department personnel and allows students to
      interact daily with Police Officers.

      An intern position with the Santa Rosa Police Department can be a
      very rich and rewarding experience. We hope to provide students
      with an opportunity to be participants and observers in the
      day-to-day operations of a municipal law enforcement agency with
      the opportunity to compare and contrast academic teachings to
      real-life situations. Interns work a flexible schedule determined
      by class schedule and department needs.

       Supervision received:
       General supervision is provided by an Administrative Analyst.

       Examples of duties:
       Tracking all department vehicles and ensuring timely maintenance
      and repairs;
      Preparing vehicles for transport; may include removal and
      unloading of weapons to/from patrol units;
      Recording all vehicles on a maintenance log;
      Scheduling appointments and transporting vehicles to outside
      vendors and City  Yard;
      Monitoring patrol car supplies and stocking accordingly;
      Monitoring maintenance on vehicles, emergency equipment, and
      documentation;
      Ensuring proper forms are stocked in patrol vehicles; fuel cards
      are operating properly;
      Operate a variety of computers and software programs;
      Prepare reports for internal and external requests;
      Audit citations and purge as necessary;
      Audit monthly missing reports;
      Data entry;
      Research the disposition of cases to determine purge dates;
      Prepare surplus and unclaimed property for disposal at auction;
      Organize property/evidence;
      Assist and Coordinate Community Engagement efforts
      Follow-up on missing persons cases via phone calls;
      Prepare sex offender registration packets for the registration
      process;
      Assist with maintaining the social media calendar;
      Assist the PIO Sergeant with digital media assets, including
      video and photo editing;
      Assist with maintaining the social media calendar, virtual
      ride-a-longs and sit-a-longs, and recruiting efforts and
      training;
      Other duties as assigned


      Qualifications:

       Knowledge of:
       Police department services; the use of computers and technology;
      customer service relations; and general scheduling, maintenance,
      and inventory practices.

       Ability to:
       Learn and understand Police Department policies, procedures, and
      laws; follow detailed instructions; understand oral and written
      instructions; multi-task; work independently with minimal
      supervision; communicate effectively; maintain confidentiality;
      attention to detail; use good organizational skills; organize and
      maintain records; and deal courteously with the public.

        Working Conditions:
       Work will be performed primarily in an indoor setting and
      outdoors in the field. May sit and stand for extended periods
      with ability to sit or stand as needed and communicate
      face-to-face, on the telephone, and via electronic mail. Drive
      fleet vehicles to and from city facilities.

      Required Qualifications
      To qualify as a Student Intern, individuals must be enrolled in a
      college program that directly relates to the work they are
      performing. Interns in the Police Department work year-round
      between 10 – 20 hours per week depending on the needs of the
      department. For Police Department interns, a valid Class C
      California Driver License and good driving history is also
      required.

      Additional Information
      Applications will first be reviewed to ensure they are complete
      and demonstrate the applicant's possession of minimum
      qualifications. Next, the applications and supplemental
      questionnaires will be reviewed/evaluated to determine the MOST
      QUALIFIED candidates and those will be invited to the next steps,
      anticipated to include a department interview. Candidates will be
      required to participate in a background investigation which
      includes: police records checks, review of DMV driving record,
      and completion of a Personal History Statement.
